E15 and Livestock Panels Round Out

6th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit

Ethanol’s Impact on Consumers and Livestock Producers will be Examined

JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today announced the panels for the 6th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit on January 24th.  “Synergies of Livestock and Ethanol” and “E15 – the New Consumer Choice” will be featured topics of two panels during the afternoon program.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey will moderate a panel representing Iowa’s livestock and corn industries that will discuss the dynamics between ethanol and livestock production. Joining Secretary Northey will be Matt Deppe with Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Craig Floss with Iowa Corn Growers Association and Randy Ives with Gavilon Group LLC.

The second panel will provide consumers with information on E15 for cars, trucks and SUVs.  Ron Lamberty, American Coalition for Ethanol, and Greg Emick, W & H Coop, will share what consumers need to know in preparation for future use of E15 in 2001 and newer vehicles.

“These panels represent two important segments in moving the ethanol industry forward,” said Lucy Norton, Managing Director of the IRFA. “The livestock industry is a significant market for corn and a major consumer of the ethanol co-product, distillers grains, while E15 is a new market on the horizon that represents potential new demand for 7 billion gallons of ethanol.”

The Summit and trade show will be held at Veterans Memorial/Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Additional information on the Summit can be found at www.IowaRFA.org.

Additional highlights of the Summit will include presentations from Four-star General Paul Kern (US Army, ret.) on foreign oil’s impact on U.S. military operations. Governor Terry Branstad will address implementation of Iowa’s proactive public policy for E15 and biodiesel under his leadership. Executive Director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, Dr. Gal Luft, will spell out the real national security threats posed by our country’s dangerous dependence on foreign petroleum. National Biodiesel Board CEO Joe Jobe will outline the national landscape for biodiesel on the heels of a record year of biodiesel production and what to expect in 2012 and beyond.

Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production.  Iowa has 41 ethanol refineries capable of producing nearly 3.7 billion gallons annually. In addition, Iowa has 13 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce 320 million gallons annually.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
