Energy Security Expert Gal Luft to Speak at
6th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit

JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today announced that Dr. Gal Luft, Executive Director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security (IAGS), will present at the 6th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit on January 24th. Dr. Luft is renowned for his expertise in topics such as energy security, terrorism, economic warfare and geopolitics. He is also a tireless promoter of ways to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil. Dr. Luft’s research and articles have been published in numerous newspapers, magazines and journals, and he has written or co-authored three books, including Turning Oil into Salt: Energy Independence Through Fuel Choice (2009).

“We are honored to have Dr. Luft join us in Iowa to spell out the real national security threats posed by our country’s dangerous dependence on foreign petroleum,” said IRFA Executive Director Monte Shaw. “His extensive background on energy and terrorism issues around the globe will offer an eye-opening perspective to our Summit audience.”

The Summit and trade show will be held at Veterans Memorial/Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Additional highlights of the Summit will include presentations from four-star General Paul Kern (US Army, Ret.) on foreign oil’s impact on U.S. military operations as well as former Reagan National Security Advisor Robert McFarlane on breaking America’s addiction to foreign oil through consumer fuel choice. The Summit will also feature a presentation on the national outlook for biodiesel and panel discussions on “E15: The New Consumer Choice” and “Synergies of Livestock and Ethanol.”

Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production. Iowa has 41 ethanol refineries capable of producing nearly 3.7 billion gallons annually. In addition, Iowa has 13 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce 320 million gallons annually.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
