Governor Terry Branstad to Address
6th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit
JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today announced that Iowa Governor Terry Branstad will address its 6th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit on January 24th. Governor Branstad has made Iowa a leader in renewables fuels production and public policy.
“Leadership from the top makes a difference and Governor Branstad has made a big difference for Iowa’s ethanol and biodiesel producers,” said IRFA Executive Director Monte Shaw. “Under his leadership, Iowa has taken a lead in proactive public policy for E15 and biodiesel. The renewable fuels community looks forward to hearing from the Governor regarding the implementation of these policies.”
The Summit and trade show, being held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial/Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines, is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Participants can register online at www.IowaRFA.org, where they’ll also find additional links and information relating to the Summit, or by calling Lucy Norton at 515-252-6249.
Governor Branstad is scheduled to address the Summit at 11:30 a.m. Additional highlights of the Summit will include presentations from four-star General Paul Kern (US Army, ret.) on foreign oil’s impact on U.S. military operations as well as former Reagan National Security Advisor Robert McFarlane on breaking America’s addiction to foreign oil through consumer fuel choice. Executive Director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, Dr. Gal Luft, will spell out the real national security threats posed by our country’s dangerous dependence on foreign petroleum. The Summit will also feature a presentation on the national outlook for biodiesel and panel discussions on “E15: The New Consumer Choice” and “Synergies of Livestock and Ethanol.”
Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production. Iowa has 41 ethanol refineries capable of producing nearly 3.7 billion gallons annually. In addition, Iowa has 13 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce 320 million gallons annually.
The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
