Iowa Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program Awards Grants to Expand Biodiesel and E85 Consumer Access
First E85 Blender Pumps Approved in Iowa
JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today applauded the Iowa Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program for awarding new grants for E85 and biodiesel retail and terminal infrastructure. For Iowa retailers, grants are available that cover up to 70 percent of total expenses up to a maximum of $50,000 (five-year contract) for E85 dispensers or blender pumps and biodiesel dispensers or blender pumps.
Once a retailer installs their first E85 or biodiesel pump, they are eligible for an additional multi-site bonus grant of $6,000 per location for adding E85 or biodiesel infrastructure to additional sites within a 12-month period up to a maximum of $24,000.
“These grants will serve as a springboard for new E85 and biodiesel retail locations as well as biodiesel wholesale locations,” said Lucy Norton, IRFA Managing Director. “Changes made to the grant limits this year have sparked enhanced interest in the program. Coupled with the availability of blender pumps, we expect to see more applicants moving forward.”
Four blender pumps were included in this round of grants. These are the first blender pumps to receive grants in Iowa. A blender pump can allow up to five different products from one dispenser. Blender pumps provide more choices for consumers at the pump while offering greater flexibility and security for retailers.
