Storm Lake Receives Its First Blender Pump

STAR Energy to Offer Biofuel Discounts at Blender Pump Grand Opening

JOHNSTON, IOWA – STAR Energy in Storm Lake, Iowa is now offering a wide range of ethanol blends due to the installation of the city’s first blender pump.

Iowa is the nation’s largest producer of ethanol and biodiesel. With that in mind, STAR Energy in Storm Lake becomes the latest Iowa fuel retailer to install a blender pump, offering blends of E15, E30, and E85 to help flex-fuel vehicle (FFV) owners in the Storm Lake area combat high prices at the pump.

To celebrate the city’s first blender pump, a grand opening will take place July 20, at 1508 E. 4th St. in Storm Lake. The event will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. with the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Following the ceremony, STAR Energy will offer flex-fuel sales discounts from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with an 85 cent per gallon discount off E85, a 30 cent per gallon discount off E30 and a 15 cent per gallon discount off E15. Also, lunch will be served at the station from 11:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m., and all customers will receive a STAR Energy gift bag with a flex-fuel purchase. The event is co-sponsored by the Buena Vista County Farm Bureau, Buena Vista County Corn Growers, Iowa Corn and Iowa Renewable Fuels Association.

Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production. Iowa has 41 ethanol refineries capable of producing nearly 3.7 billion gallons annually and one new facility currently under construction. In addition, Iowa has 13 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce 320 million gallons annually.

STAR Energy is a retail division of GROWMARK, Inc. which provides refined and renewable fuel options for residential, commercial and industrial customers. STAR Energy operates 23 retail stations located in western and central Iowa.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
