FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ethanol Use Remained Strong in January at 77%

JOHNSTON, Iowa - Mar 02, 2006 - The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today announced that Iowa motorists chose ethanol blends 77% of the time in January according to newly released Iowa Department of Revenue figures. This is just below the all-time high for E10 (10% ethanol) sales of 78% set in November 2005.

“Iowans remain committed to ethanol blended fuels,” stated Monte Shaw, IRFA’s Executive Director. “The key to growth in ethanol use for the future is E85. That is why the ethanol industry is urging the state legislature to enact an Iowa Renewable Fuels Standard, which will help put the choice of E10, E85, and biodiesel blends before more Iowans.”

January 2006 Iowa Gasoline Sales

  • Gasoline 32,230,275 gallons (23%)
  • E10 107,564,740 gallons (77%)
    • Total 139,795,015 gallons

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s ethanol and biodiesel producers. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
