Frontier Ethanol, LLC Begins Production Near Gowrie
25th Iowa Ethanol Refinery Begins Production
JOHNSTON, IA - May 25, 2006 - The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today congratulated Frontier Ethanol, LLC for beginning production at its ethanol refinery near Gowrie, Iowa. The facility will process 21 million bushels of corn into 60 million gallons of ethanol and 178,000 tons of distillers grains annually. The refinery is expected to employ approximately 40 people with an annual payroll of $1.8 million.
“Frontier Ethanol is the 25th ethanol refinery in Iowa and the 100th in the U.S.,” said Monte Shaw, IRFA Executive Director. “Broin Companies has been instrumental in growing the ethanol industry, but I doubt the Broin Companies ever imagined they’d build the 100th ethanol facility when they started building their first plant on the family farm in Minnesota. Looking ahead now, it’s exciting dream big about the future of the ethanol industry and the role Frontier Ethanol and Broin Companies will play.”
Frontier Ethanol is the 23rd ethanol refinery built by the Broin Companies, who provides turnkey development, design, engineering, construction, management, and marketing services for the ethanol industry.
“The Broin Companies built one of the first successful ethanol production plants in America and we are thrilled that our plant, Frontier Ethanol, is our nation’s 100th,” exclaimed Jeff Broin, CEO of the Broin Companies. “This is a tremendous milestone for our industry and our organization.”
Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production. Currently, Iowa has 25 ethanol refineries with the capacity to produce over 1.5 billion gallons annually. There are 4 ethanol refineries and two major expansions under construction with a combined annual capacity of 425 million gallons. In addition, Iowa has 6 biodiesel refineries with a combined annual capacity of over 100 million gallons either in operation or under construction. Many additional renewable fuels projects are under development.
The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s ethanol and biodiesel producers. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
