Fuel Time Brings E85 to Mason City Consumers
JOHNSTON, Iowa - Jun 14, 2006 - 36 Iowa Stations Now Offer E85
JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today congratulated Fuel Time for offering E85 to Mason City consumers. Today, Fuel Time held a grand opening for its E85 pump located at 426 4th Street, SW in Mason City. E85 was sold for only 85 cents per gallon during the special promotion.
IRFA Managing Director Lucy Norton presented Eldon Meyers of K&H Cooperative Oil Company (Fuel Time’s owner) with a $7500 grant from the Iowa Values Fund Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program to help offset the expense of adding an E85 pump. E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline and can be used in flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) designed to use the alternative fuel.
Fuel Time is one of 16 retailers to receive funding through the Iowa Values Fund Program during FY2006, which is being managed by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA). A total of $325,000 has been allocated annually for three years to expand the availability of both E85 and biodiesel.
Coordinated by the American Lung Association of Iowa, the IRFA works with Iowa Corn, National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition and other groups to increase consumer access and promote consumer awareness of E85. A complete list of Iowa’s E85 fueling stations can be found at: www.iowarfa.org/ethanol_e85refueling.php.
“Consumer response to E85 remains very strong and record sales continue,” stated Lucy Norton, IRFA’s Managing Director. “We increasingly hear from consumers who shop at stations providing E85 even if they don’t own an FFV to use E85. While the fuel they buy – 10% ethanol – is available everywhere, these consumers want to show their support for retailers leading the way in providing an Iowa fuel to consumers.”
The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
