New E85 Station for Iowa Consumers in Floyd
48 Iowa Stations Offer E85

JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today announced that Iowa consumers have yet another place to fuel up with homegrown E85 – Floyd, near Highway 218.  Iowa now has 48 stations offering E85.

218 Fuel Express has opened their E85 pump located at 68 Monroe Street in Floyd.  Open to customers now, a formal grand opening is being planned.

218 Fuel Express is one of more than 30 retailers to receive funding through the Iowa Values Fund Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program, which is managed by the IRFA.  A total of $325,000 per year was allocated to help expand the availability of both E85 and biodiesel.  Given the overwhelming response, the Iowa Legislature created a new, larger program this spring that will provide $13 million over three years to help with infrastructure costs.  That program is still being implemented.

“The Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program has been a great success,” stated IRFA’s Managing Director Lucy Norton.  “Iowa has gone from only 15 E85 stations to 48 with more on the way.  Once the new program can accept applications, we expect E85 pump installations to increase exponentially.”

E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline and can be used in flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) designed to burn the alternative fuel.  A complete list of Iowa’s E85 fueling stations can be found at: www.IowaRFA.org/ethanol_e85refueling.php.  A list of FFVs can be found at:  www.IowaRFA.org/ethanol_flex.php.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry.  The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
