Biofuel Vehicles to be on Display at Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit

E85 Chopper and “E100” Indy Car among the Vehicles to be on Display During Trade Show with Two Dozen Exhibitors

JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit will give participants the chance to get a close look at some of the newest environmentally friendly vehicles made possible by ethanol and biodiesel. The summit, hosted by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA), will be held this Thursday at the Polk County Convention Center in Des Moines. The trade show and registration check-in both open at noon, and the program will run from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Vehicles set to be on display include an E85 Chopper, an “E100” Indy Racing Car, a flexible fuel Chevrolet Tahoe, and a diesel Chevrolet pickup truck endorsed to run on B5 biodiesel. This will give both industry insiders and consumers the chance to see some of the options available for biofuel vehicles.

“Vehicles running on biodiesel and ethanol are some of the most cutting-edge vehicles available to the public,” said IRFA Executive Director Monte Shaw. “These vehicles help illustrate the exciting technological improvements occurring in the production and use of renewable fuels. But the flex fuel vehicles are just the beginning. Two dozen exhibitors will be highlighting many facets of the innovation occurring in the biodiesel and ethanol industries.”

Exhibitors for the trade show include Alliant Energy; BBI International; Ceres Agriculture Consultants, LLC; Clean Air Choice Team; E85 Chopper; Ethanol Promotion and Information Council; Frontline Energy; Fuel Flex International; Growmark, The FS System; Hydro-Klean, Inc.; ICM, Inc.; John Hancock Financial Network; Monsanto; Pioneer Hi-Bred International; POET, LLC; Renewable Energy Group; Robert White Industries, Inc.; Scales, Sales, & Service; Seneca Companies; Stanley Consultants; The Walling Company; and USDA Market News.

The summit is free and open to the public. Pre-registration ends today. Participants can register online at www.IowaRFA.org, where they’ll find more links and information relating to the summit.

Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production. Iowa has 28 ethanol refineries with the capacity to produce nearly 2.1 billion gallons annually. There are 16 ethanol refineries under construction or expansion that will add over 1.5 billion gallons of annual capacity. In addition, Iowa has 14 biodiesel refineries with a combined annual capacity of over 315 million gallons in operation. Two biodiesel refineries under construction will add 35 million gallons of capacity.  Many additional renewable fuels projects are under development.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s ethanol and biodiesel producers. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
