Fueling the Truth: Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Launches New Tool to Uncover the Truth Behind
Renewable Fuel Production, Use
JOHNSTON, IA – With Iowa leading the nation in renewable fuel production and the continual attacks on renewable fuel production practices and the use of biofuels, the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) has launched a new tool on their website, entitled Fueling the Truth, to sort fact from fiction.
The webpage can be accessed at www.iowarfa.org/truth and will provide renewable fuel information on a variety of topics including water use, sustainability, greenhouse gases, land use, food versus fuel, energy balance and the economics of renewable fuel production and use.
“The renewable fuels industry is rapidly evolving and new information is released daily. This site will serve as a clearinghouse for credible renewable fuels information and to refute unsubstantiated claims,” said Monte Shaw, IRFA Executive Director. “Because Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production, it is our responsibility to ensure that accurate information is available and readily accessible to the public and policy-makers.”
The website will be continually updated to reflect new changes and research in the renewable fuels industry. If you have a question about renewable fuel production or use, visit www.iowarfa.org/truth to uncover the truth and help fuel our nation to environmental responsibility and decreased dependence on foreign oil through the use of renewable fuels.
Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production. Iowa has 14 biodiesel refineries with a combined annual capacity of nearly 320 million gallons in operation. Two biodiesel refineries under construction will add 35 million gallons of capacity. In addition, Iowa has 29 ethanol refineries with the capacity to produce over 2.2 billion gallons annually. There are 14 ethanol refineries under construction or expansion that will add nearly 1.5 billion gallons of annual capacity. Many additional renewable fuels projects are under development.
