Galva Holstein Ag to Offer Iowa’s First Blender Pump in Galva

JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) congratulates Galva Holstein Ag, LLC for installing the first blender pump in the state. The station started pumping multiple ethanol blends on August 14. The station is located at 1583 Market Ave, Galva IA, just off of Highway 20.

Blender pumps are the newest way for consumers to fill up with ethanol in Iowa. The pumps can be set up to offer traditional ethanol blends, such as E10 and E85, as well as mid-level blends like E20, E30 and E50. This gives consumers more options to choose from, based on price and fuel efficiency. Galva Holstein Ag will offer ethanol blends of E10, E30, and E85. Currently, all blend levels above E10 are only approved for flexible-fuel vehicles.

“We applaud Galva Holstein Ag for leading the way in the next generation of fuel retailing,” said IRFA Managing Director Lucy Norton. “Not only does this give more options to flex-fuel vehicle drivers, but it lays the framework for approval of higher ethanol blends for traditional vehicles down the road. With increased options, ethanol can continue to lower fuel prices and save consumers money at the pump.”

“As ethanol prices have become more attractive, consumers are doing their homework and recognizing that adding more ethanol to fuel blends has major advantages”, reports Gary Brosamle, Energy Department Manager at Galva Holstein Ag.  “Prior to blender pumps, all we could offer was E10 or E85 – now we can offer something in the middle to flexible-fuel vehicle drivers who want to use American Made Fuel and save money at the pump at the same time”, Brosamle added.

E85 and E30 are currently priced at $2.80 and $3.38 in Galva, respectively. A grand re-opening event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17th, and the public is invited to attend.

E85 is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. E85, as well as other mid level blends such as E20, E30 and E50, can be used in flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) designed to burn the alternative fuel. A complete list of Iowa’s E85 and blender pump fueling stations can be found at www.IowaRFA.org/ethanol_e85refueling.php. A list of FFVs can be found at www.iowarfa.org/ethanol_e85refueling.php.

Retailers interested in installing an E85, blender pump or biodiesel pumps can receive a grant from the Iowa Department of Economic Development. Information and a grant application may be found at: www.iowalifechanging.com/business/renewablefuels.html.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s ethanol and biodiesel producers. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
