Blender Pumps Open in Olds and Rock Rapids
JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) congratulates Unity Biofuels and Popkes Car Care Inc. for being among the first Iowa retailers to install blender pumps. Flexible fuel vehicle drivers can now find E85 mid-level ethanol blends at these locations:
Unity Biofuels
302 E School St
Olds, IA 52647
Popkes Car Care Inc.
800 1st Ave
Rock Rapids, IA 51246
Blender pumps are the newest way for consumers to fill up with ethanol in Iowa. The pumps can be set up to offer traditional ethanol blends, such as E10 and E85, as well as mid-level blends like E20, E30 and E50. This gives consumers more options to choose from, based on price and fuel efficiency. Both stations will offer ethanol blends of E10, E20, E30, and E85. Currently, all blend levels above E10 are only approved for flexible-fuel vehicles.
“Blender pumps are the newest trend in renewable fuel distribution,” said Lucy Norton the managing director if IRFA. “The Olds and Rock Rapids stations are leading the way in providing Iowa motorists with clean, alternative fuel options made in America from our own renewable resources.”
Both stations are scheduled to have a grand opening starting with Unity Biofuels which will be held September 5 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Popkes Car Care Inc. grand opening will be held on Friday, September 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Both will offer fuel discounts.
E85 is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. E85, as well as other mid-level blends such as E20, E30 and E50, can be used in flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) designed to burn the alternative fuels. A complete list of Iowa’s E85 and blender pump fueling stations can be found at www.IowaRFA.org/ethanol_e85refueling.php. A list of FFVs can be found at www.iowarfa.org/ethanol_e85refueling.php.
Retailers interested in installing an E85, blender pump or biodiesel pump can apply for a grant from the Iowa Department of Economic Development. Information and a grant application may be found at: www.iowalifechanging.com/business/renewablefuels.html.
The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s ethanol and biodiesel producers. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
