Governor Chet Culver to Speak at 4th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit

JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today announced that Iowa Governor Chet Culver will speak at its 4th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit on January 25th.  Governor Culver, Chair of the Governors’ Biofuels Coalition, has made maintaining Iowa’s first-in-the-nation status on renewable fuels one of his top priorities.

“As the number one renewable fuels state, it is important for Iowa to lead, and Governor Culver understands this,” said IRFA President Bill Couser.  “It’s been a difficult year for renewable fuels and it will be very interesting to hear Governor Culver’s thoughts for our future.”

The event, being held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Polk County Convention Complex in Des Moines, is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Governor Culver is scheduled to address the Summit at 11:30 am.  Other speakers include Growth Energy’s General Wesley Clark (Ret.), EPA’s Margo Oge and USDA Rural Development’s Dallas Tonsager.

Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production.  Iowa has 39 ethanol refineries capable of producing nearly 3.3 billion gallons annually. In addition, Iowa has 15 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce over 322 million gallons annually.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
