Iowa Republican Gubernatorial Candidates to
Speak at the 4th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit

JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today announced that Iowa Republican gubernatorial candidates will be speaking at its 4th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit on Monday, January 25, 2010, at 2:00 p.m.

              The candidates will be addressing Driving Iowa’s Energy Future. Following opening remarks they will be asked questions regarding their vision on the most important issues facing renewable fuels in Iowa today. Representative Christopher Rants, Representative Rod Roberts and Bob Vander Plaats have been confirmed to attend. Former Governor Terry Branstad declined the invitation.

“Given Iowa’s status as the leading renewable fuels state, it is important for our industry to hear from those who want to lead the state,” said IRFA President Bill Couser. “If elected, each of these individuals could have great influence over the renewable fuels industry. It will be insightful to see where each candidate stands on the issues facing the renewable fuels industry today.”

The Summit and trade show, being held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Polk County Convention Complex, are free and open to the public.  Participants can register online at www.IowaRFA.org through January 20, 2010. On-site registration will also be available on January 25th.

           Iowa is the leader in renewable fuels production.  Iowa has 39 ethanol refineries capable of producing nearly 3.3 billion gallons annually. In addition, Iowa has 15 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce over 322 million gallons annually.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry. The trade group fosters the development and growth of the renewable fuels industry in Iowa through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
